Leftist Family Values Schizophrenia: Thanksgiving vs. Christmas

Every Thanksgiving, Leftists magically become champions of Family Values, of the importance of spending time at home with family rather than at work. The weeks preceding Thanksgiving see countless media stories bemoaning the sacrilege of businesses open on Thanksgiving Day.  Unions organize protests at workplaces open on Thanksgiving, write finger-wagging articles and bash heartless corporations who “can afford to give employees this holiday to spend with their families.”

But Leftists’ concern for family values mysteriously vanishes weeks later at Christmas, when they no longer care if businesses force employees to work.  So why are “family values” important on Thanksgiving but not Christmas?

One prominent business operating on Christmas Day is Hollywood, which commonly uses the holiday to release important films. In the process, Hollywood profits billions of dollars from movie theaters that pay some of the lowest wages in the United States. Why are Liberals outraged at Walmart for holiday work days but not at Hollywood?

Patriot Eric Garner and the Certainty of Death and Taxes

Eric Garner died a patriot.  Yes, you read that right. Eric Garner has more in common with the colonists at the Boston Tea Party than he does with Michael Brown.  Eric Garner died while being arrested by New York City police last July.  His crime?  Selling untaxed cigarettes.  Garner’s actions were premised on the same notion that spurred the colonists to sabotage tea shipments in protest of England’s Stamp Act of 1765.

In a City where you may not be arrested for marijuana possession or violating immigration laws, where illegal alien criminals will not be deported, you can be certain that the sacred lifeblood of Big Government – taxes – will always receive aggressive criminal enforcement, regardless if those taxes make the poor poorer or kill husbands and fathers like Eric Garner.

Just four weeks ago Mayor De Blasio proudly announced that New Yorkers would no longer be arrested for low level marijuana offenses because it would allow police to put “more time and energy into fighting more serious crime.”  Apparently he meant “more time and energy into fighting” the victimless but “serious” crime of untaxed cigarettes. Bilious liberal hypocrites like Mayor De Blasio know who the real criminals are in New York City.   It’s those like Garner who Just Say No to tyrannical taxation.

Voter Turnout: The Silver Lining in California’s Liberal Cloud

The low voter turnout in California’s midterm elections presents a golden opportunity for conservatives to influence state and local politics through the initiative process.  Because the number of signatures required to qualify an initiative for the ballot in California is determined by the number of votes cast in the midterm elections, the recent low turnout makes it easier to qualify government-limiting, tax-cutting initiatives over the next four years.  Presented correctly, these coming initiatives could invigorate discouraged conservative voters and drain bloated bureaucracies.

Local grassroots groups are already organizing strategies to bypass the Democrat Party’s far left stranglehold on California politics. For example, TeaPAC, a grassroots tea party organization in Pasadena, California, is organizing initiative campaigns in cities to cut certain local taxes and, in the process, “suck tens, even hundreds of millions of dollars out of the system.” It would also force Democrats and, indirectly, unions “to defend against dozens of efforts to repeal local taxes”, which in turn would divert their time and money from local, state and national political campaigns.

Twisted Truth-o-Meter: PolitiFact gives bumbling defense of Liz Warren Puff Piece

Recently, PolitiFact targeted me when it publicly labeled “Mostly False” a social media Meme I created that mocked Senator Elizabeth Warren.  My PolitiChicks article exposed PolitiFact’s dishonest smear against the Meme and me.  I then sent a detailed letter to PolitiFact’s editors explaining why I was right and PolitiFact was wrong.  That letter (reproduced below) provoked a condescending and huffy response from PolitiFact (read it for yourself below) doubling down on its misrepresentations and sloppy journalism, using small words in hopes little women like me might understand true journalists’ factual finesse.

What was especially dumbfounding was PolitiFact’s response that “we would have been happy to respond to your concerns” but for the fact that “11 days” had passed since publishing the article.  Spoken in Elizabeth Warren parlance, PolitiFact won’t smoke-em peace pipe with Paleface PolitiChick.

In Bizzaro-PolitiFact-world, fact checking my six month-old Meme is timely, but fact-checking its own 11 day-old article is not timely.  Odd too is that PolitiFact emailed me about its article just five hours before publishing it, as if that were sufficient notice to respond (sorry, PolitiFact, but Wednesday afternoons I have three separate school pick-ups followed by kids’ karate lessons).
